Chief Electoral Office business plan 2003-2006

The Chief Electoral Office is responsible for the conduct of general elections, by-elections and referenda. It also provides advice to Ministers and to Select Committees of Parliament on electoral issues. The office is a division of the Ministry of Justice, although in the application of the electoral law the Chief Electoral Officer acts independently. Draft long term strategy for voting technology

The Chief Electoral Office prepared a draft strategy in 2007 that looked at possible options for piloting electronic voting for general elections and referenda. After the 2008 general election it was decided that no further work would be done on developing e-voting options before the next general election because of financial constraints. Electronic or e-voting will not be available for the 2011 general election. The priority to be given to further work on e-voting options will be revisited after the 2011 general election processes have been completed.  Read more »

Improving access to voting for disabled people - action plan 2005

The Chief Electoral Office issued a consultation paper in June 2003 with a view to improving access to voting for disabled people. A number of organisations and individuals responded through written submissions, interviews and meetings. Based on the input we received and on analysis of measures taken by overseas electoral agencies the Chief Electoral Office developed this action plan.   Read more »
