How to enrol to vote

Enrolling to vote is easy. You will not be able to vote if you are not enrolled before election day. It is compulsory to be enrolled if you are qualified, although voting is optional.   Read more »

How to keep your enrolment up to date

It is easy to keep your enrolment details up to date. Whenever any of your details change you must let your Registrar of Electors know. Simply fill in an enrolment form here and if you have previously given consent to update your enrolment details electronically, you can do this online, via the igovt logon service.   Read more »

How to register to update your details online?

You may update your enrolment details electronically rather than through the traditional paper-based process once you have registered to use this service. To commence the registration process we require one last paper-based signed enrolment form ‘Enrolling to vote: Application’. Once we have processed your enrolment form we will assist you to set-up your electronic enrolment account via the igovt logon service.  Read more »

How to enrol if you are Māori

As a New Zealand Māori, or a descendant of a New Zealand Māori, you have the choice of enrolling to vote at parliamentary elections on a Māori roll or a General roll.   Read more »

How to enrol before you are 18

You can make a "provisional enrolment" as soon as you turn 17 by making a standard enrolment application described under How to enrol to vote. On your 18th birthday you will be put on the electoral roll automatically.   Read more »

How to enrol from overseas

If you are 18 years of age or older and either: a New Zealand citizen and have been in New Zealand in the past three years, or a New Zealand permanent resident who has been in New Zealand in the past 12 months, then you may enrol.  Read more »

How to enrol on the unpublished roll

If you are an eligible elector and believe that having your details recorded on the published electoral roll could threaten your personal safety, or that of your family, you may request that your details be included only on the unpublished roll.   Read more »
